This position, as a member of the Production team, is specifically responsible for assistance with the manufacture of Oxford Immunotec products to the relevant quality standards.  The Apprentice will work towards a level 3 qualification in Life Sciences. 


This apprenticeship has been designed by industry for anyone wanting to work as a Science Manufacturing Technician. Apprentices will carry out and operate the systems and equipment involved in the production of products.


Elements of the Apprenticeship to complete –

  • A Health and Safety qualification, Behaviour and Vocational Competence logs
  • A Knowledge qualification i.e. BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science, Level 3 Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, Level 3 Certificate in Laboratory Technical Skills
  • End-Point Assessment with 3 key components

It is expected that the Apprentice will be engaged in study on average once a week in a group with other apprentices near to the offcie.


The end-point assessment process is carried once all other elements have been successfully completed. An independent assessor from Science Industry Assessment Service (SIAS) will carry out the 3 stages of the end-point assessment. This apprenticeship is graded at Fail, Pass or Distinction.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the manufacture of components and products, including labelling and product assembly, all according to the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • To act as a checker in all manufacturing processes whilst training as an Operator.
  • Assist in the maintenance of appropriate stock levels and to contribute to the management of the proper flow of raw materials, work in progress and finished goods.
  • Complete Manufacturing batch records and related documentation.
  • Work as a team to ensuring that production runs are completed to agreed timelines.
  • Communicate that any likely delays or issues with a given activity are communicated to the appropriate Team Lead in a timely manner.
  • Reading Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and specifications, and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Perform duties in other departments on an occasional basis to meet critical company objectives as requested.
  • Ensure all work is performed to agreed time scales and that senior staff are kept up to date with progress as appropriate
  • Work to Oxford Immunotec Company values at all times


Desirable Technical skills and abilities

  • 5 GSCE to include English, Maths and a Science
  • A passion for science and a knowledge of life science
  • A desire to continue learning and studying



Essential Technical skills and abilities


  • Knowledge of Windows and Office bases applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Willing to work towards a qualification in Science Manufacturing
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work loads
  • Previous work experience


Emotional skills and abilities


  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Capable of working effectively in a team environment
